Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America

The women’s group at St. Thomas is known as WELCA.  All women are welcome and urged to participate in this active organization.

Two Groups

The women have formed the Deborah Circle and the Hannah

The two groups of WELCA meet jointly for a quarterly meeting in March, June, September and in December. The December meeting is a covered dish dinner celebrating the Advent & Christmas season. For the other eight months of the year, the two groups meet separately for Bible study and fellowship. The Deborah Circle meets the second Wednesday morning of Jan, Feb, Apr, May, July, Aug, Oct and Nov at 10:30 AM and the Hannah Circle meets on the second Monday evening of these months at 7:30 PM.

Please make sure you visit the Calendar for any changes to our regularly scheduled activities.

Each spring, WELCA assembles and delivers Easter baskets to Lutheran Family Services (with participation from the entire congregation). These baskets are delivered to children in foster care.

Each year WELCA sponsors the collection of school supplies, personal hygiene articles and cleaning supplies that are distributed to Lutheran Family Services’ group homes in the Charlotte area.

WELCA sponsors the Prayer Chain for the entire congregation to promote communication and prayer for those in need. We have enhanced the prayer chain to include email notification to members. Please let us know if you are interested. With special ‘thankofferings’, WELCA supports women and children living in poverty and the worldwide ministries of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. As part of the ‘Labels for Education’ program, Campbell’s soup labels are collected throughout the year for Crossnore School.
